Sundays at Tower Hamlets Community Church

We are one church that meets in two different locations on a Sunday morning. We share a common vision and resources, equipping each congregation to be more effective in reaching our local community.

Once every few months we meet as a whole church to celebrate God and spend time together. Please check the calendar before planning your visit.

FAQs

  • Firstly, you are so welcome. Please feel free to be you, and participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. We aren’t a “Sunday best” type of church, so come exactly as you are emotionally, physically and spiritually.

If you have questions about the service or want to explore faith further then please do not hesitate to chat to the host after the service (they will be the one with the microphone, introducing items of the service and welcoming everyone to church).

  • When you arrive, you will find tea, coffee and refreshments. This is free and is served before and after the service. If you are early, feel free to sit down or to chat with people. We are a friendly bunch, and enjoy meeting new faces.

During the service you are welcome to join in or just to watch. There will be a host for the service who will explain what will happen at each stage.

We start with sung worship. While most people stand up for this, please feel free to sit if you prefer. We then usually have notices, share stories of what God is doing in our lives, listen to a talk about the Bible, followed by some more sung worship. Children and Youth leave for their sessions part way through the service.

During the service there is a collection, but this is for people who attend THCC regularly and who want to contribute to the work of the church. There is no expectation for visitors to give. Many give to THCC directly through their bank, so on a Sunday, most pass the collection on without putting anything into it.

After the service there is a chance for more refreshments (we like to eat and caffeinate) and opportunity to meet people.

If you have any questions before you visit please contact us.

  • We have sessions at both congregations for children aged 4-11. Lighthouse have a supervised creche where you can drop off your little one, while at Husk parents stay and play, and the service is streamed to the creche room.

Our youth alternate between venues, so if you are planning to visit with a teenager, contact sarah@thcc.org.uk who will be able to let you know which site will have youth work.

Children stay in the service for the first 20 minutes or so, and the youth stay a little longer. If you are visiting with children for the first time, please go out with them and ask one of the adults to guide you.

  • As a church, we believe in the power of prayer to change lives, so you will find plenty of people happy to pray with you. Most weeks there will be a call from the front to come and get prayer. If you are uncertain about doing that, or who to approach, then we recommend that you ask someone you have seen at the front of the service like the host, or preacher.

  • Absolutely. Our Husk service is live streamed every week on YouTube, and you can find the weekly sermons on Spotify and Apple podcasts.

While this will give you a feel for what happens at the front of the service, there is a lot about the experience of THCC that it misses, so we always encourage people to visit us in person.

  • There are lots of ways to get involved. We recommend joining a Life Group as a great first step, as this will help you to stay connected with church life and get to know people. You can also sign up to Church Suite for updates (which is also where our team rotas are managed)

If you have been coming to THCC for a while and intend to make it your home we would love to chat to you about your gifts and where you are interested in serving. Just let your Life Group leader or a service host know and they will connect you with the right team, or you can contact the church office.
